While tourists waste their money on the coast of the Dead Sea you can improve your health at 50 UAH in the same way. On the south of Ukraine there is the unique curative geyser. Kherson is famous for its natural health resorts, but this hot spring is rich in iodine, bromine, and mineral salts. Here people can enjoy incredible experiences from swimming.

Geyser was formed by accident: in 1971 exploration gas works were in progress. While drilling a borehole a layer of water rich with minerals was found. The borehole was safely mothballed for decades until metal detectors stumbled upon the Soviet treasure trove with the hot spring in 1999.
At the moment there are two swimming pools filled with water and the other one is filled with curative mud. Thousands of tourists from different parts of the country come to improve their health. The price is fairly symbolic. You will be charged 50 UAH per a person as an entrance fee. There are no analogues in Europe, that`s why the geyser in Zaliznyi Port is popular among travellers and healthy lifestyle enthusiasts.
Curative properties of the geyser in Zaliznyi Port
The thermal spring is unique due to its good-for-you water properties. The concentration of iodine, boracium, bromine is similar to the one of the Dead Sea. High water temperature accelerates “delivery” of elements to the organism and helps its quick absorption.

Swimming in the geyser pool is good for adults and children. Before immersion into iodine-bromine spring it is recommended to consult your doctor. Due to high concentration of salts in water pregnant and cardiovascular patients should abstain from swimming.

Pay attantion! Never swim intoxicated, having seasonal diseases (the flu) and skin diseases in an acute phase. Staying in water for 10 minutes is optimal for a time. The administration of the geyser recommends the following pattern: 10 minutes of swimming and 20 minutes of a break. No more than 5 entries.
What to do
The only thing you can do there is to improve your health. Infrastructure and service at geysers in Kherson region leave much to be desired. From luxury services you can have only massage. It is better to bring food with you– there are no cafes there.

Around the hot spring there are cabins with basic equipment – a table, clothes hooks, and a bench. There is a common-use bathroom and places for changing clothes. If you decide to wallow for a while in curative mud, you need to take clean water with you. There is no shower on the territory, and “muddy” tourists are not allowed into the spring.

It`s better to come at cold season so that you can feel the contrast of hot water and cold air. In summer there are many people even at a heat wave time. It’s better to leave a new swimming suit at home. Everything which gets into the iodine-bromine spring is tinted red. You don’t feel like going into the water? You can breathe in vapours as well as take mud and thermal water with you.
Where is the geyser located in Kherson region
The curative spring is located south-westward in the Kherson region. The landmark is villages of Obloi and Bekhtery. There is a buffer zone of Tendrivskyi firth. If you have vacation in Zaliznyi Port, take the effort to go 30 km to the geyser. The hot spring in Kherson region is definitely a musthave for travellers!
How to get there
You can get to the spring by car or bus. From Kherson you should go to the direction of Hola Prystan by road P57. After you reach Bekhtery turn to the direction of Zburivka, Tendrivske and Obloi. From Zaliznyi Port the distance is shorter through Novofedorivka to Bekhtery. The last part of the road is unpaved. In winter and dry weather it is easy to go through but after rain the road is swampy.
By bus from Kherson you can go to bus station “Pryhorodnaia” (Kolkhoznyi rynok) to the village of Obloi. The fare costs from Kherson to geyser are 100 UAH. There is no public service transportation from Zaliznyi Port. You can find guided tours or rent a car. There is a parking area on the territory but in summer it is difficult to leave your car there. We recommend going there in the morning.
Accommodation
There are 3 accommodation options, if you would like to stay longer at the geyser.
- Zaliznyi Port. There is no difficulty in renting rooms to suit every pocket. Open Booking.com and choose the option you like.
- Obloi village. Here you can stay at any of the three farmsteads – Nova, Shafran, Tenistaia. Amenities will be provided for you – internet, shower, WC and etc.
- Rent a room. In the villages in the vicinity of the geyser it is rather popular to rent rooms in ordinary village houses. You can ask locals: they will definitely tell where you can rent a room.
Hardcore tourists can put up a tent and fix a camp nearby. We doubt it won`t be allowed, but can’t guarantee.
If you would like to explore Kherson region, the geyser should be in your sights list.
