Then you are welcome to read about the way the ancient Dzharylhach lighthouse is connected to Paris, what legends go round concerning it, what is interesting and what to do there.

History and particularities

Having come ashore, you can catch a sight of high metal framework. It is a legendary lighthouse on Dzharylhach island. It is considered a symbol of the resort Skadovsk: the structure is depicted on the coat-of-arms of the city.

Navigation object appeared here in 1902. The construction works were initiated by the landowner Serhiy Skadovskyi. He ordered to manufacture the framework in France: the project was developed by Gustav Eiffel – the architect of the famous Eiffel Tower in Paris. The lighthouse was delivered by parts from France.

Old and new lighthouse

The structure of the lighthouse is light tracery. It is 24.4 m high. Eventually the lighthouse started to decay because of washing by sea waves and in 2005 it was shut down. But it didn`t cause troubles to sea vessels: in 1997 a new 24-meter tower was constructed in 50 m from the old one. The simple column of white colour works automatically.

The territory close to the light house is shrouded with legends and myths. Some of them state that it is a portal to the Otherworld. The others tell that the tower is situated on a tectonic fault  alleging that by the order of Skadovskyi it was built so that evil spirits couldn`t crawl out. To believe or not to believe is up to you.
