Geographical location and landscape

This reservoir is considered the largest estuary of the Black Sea. Its length is about 63 kilometers. Two rivers flow into it: the Dnipro and the Southern Bug, hence the name. Farther it flows into the Black Sea through the Kinburn Spit. Part of the area of the reservoir is considered a conservation area, it belongs to the Black Sea Biosphere Reserve. Spits and small islands stretch along the southern coast.

The lower reaches of the Dnipro and the estuary have a common ecosystem. More than 60 species of sea and river fish, as well as invertebrates: shellfish, crabs, and shrimp, live here.

The reservoir surprises with its outstanding landscapes. The coastline is flat almost everywhere, but there is a hilly area. It stretches along the coast near the villages of Sofiivka, Stanislav and Oleksandrivka. Some «mountains» are as high as 55 meters.

How to get there

The coast of the reservoir has several locations with beautiful landscapes. We recommend that you to come to Stanislav and see the Kherson Mountains. They are 40 kilometers away from Kherson.

You can get there by bus or car by road T-1501.

For water travel enthusiasts, we suggest going for a walk on the estuary. This service is offered by few ecobases. While on a longboat, you will enjoy the scenery and visit the Adziogol Lighthouse.

How to get here: by car in the direction of Rybalche (behind Stara Zburivka) or by transfer that is provided by a tourism company.

Kayaking

Kayaking is a popular activity in the estuary. The route goes from Stanislav to Oleksandrivka along the picturesque Kherson Grand Canyon.

Such trips are organized by local company. They offer group tours that last 4-5 hours, accompanied by a guide. Vacationers are provided with life jackets and waterproof bags for their belongings. Tours feature stops for relaxation and photoshoots. At the end of the kayak trip, guests are treated with a fragrant fish soup cooked on a fire and herbal tea.
