Would you like to visit exotic places in the Kherson region? Then you should visit Belogrudov island which is located on the river Konka. It is an isolated plot of land in the Dnipro flood plains. It is just a stone’s throw from the civilized world – you cross the river by boat and arrive in Hola Pristan (boats leave every half an hour). During summertime, tourists come so that they can see the way the local villagers live there.
Belogrudov Island a fishing settlement with a population of 300 people. There are natural soil roads and no cars drive here. There is no need to have land vehicles. The square of the settlement is 40 m2.
While the city is nearby, island residents live in the old-time way: fishing and breeding cows, pigs, fowl. They grow vegetables at home; there are no fields here. There are also several medicinal herbs which are frequently used by locals. Electricity is the only blessing of civilization present here.
It is interesting that locals use nicknames instead of names. The tradition is inherited from ancestors – the cossaks. Thus, there is some resident Dragon by name. You also can meet Gnylyi (rotten in Ukrainian) and three Crucians!
Local villagers treat tourists to ukha (fish soup) and porridge cooked under ancient recipes, and can buy embroidery and wooden handicrafts by Belogrudov residents.
