This is a favorite place for meetings, dates, and photoshoots of Kherson residents and visitors. In the warmer months, yachts and boats depart from here. And along the waterfront, you can see dozens of fishermen catching fish right before your eyes.
In the evening, the monument is illuminated.
The history of monument
The monument to the first shipbuilders is located on the Kherson waterfront at 135 Ushakov Str. This is a three-masted ship made of copper and weighing about 40 tons. The lower part of the monument is decorated with a bas-relief with figures of soldiers, sailors, and craftsmen of the late 18th century as well as modern shipbuilders. The location of the monument marks the spot from where the first ship of the Black Sea fleet took off on September 16, 1783. The 66-cannon ship was called Catherine’s Glory and was one of the first military ships built here.
