he Holy Spirit Cathedral is located at 36 Preobrazhenska Street.
History of creation
The construction of the church was started in 1804 and lasted for 31 years. The main donations for the construction of the church were made by Kherson merchants, so the residents of the city called it a "merchant church." The building was built on Pryvoz Square where the largest city market was located - Pryvoz. Therefore, another name that is firmly attached to the church and has survived to this day is the “Pryvoz Church.”
The church was considered the richest and most beautiful in Kherson. Icons, utensils, iconostasis were inlaid with gold. Since 1947, the church received a status of a cathedral.
Today, it is the main church of Kherson eparchy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
