The monument to the sailors of the Danube Flotilla is erected over the banks of the Dnipro River at 119 2nd Slobidskyi Provulok. On a pedestal made of rubble stone in the form of an incoming wave stands a small river armored boat.
History of the monument
Sailors of the flotilla took part in the defense of Kherson in August 1941. In the course of the military operation, armored boat No. 301 was hit by enemy artillery and sank. In 1976, it was lifted from the bottom of the river by submarine athletes and rebuilt at Kherson Shipyard. The monument was erected in 1980. The inscription on the memorial plate says: "To the sailors of the Danube naval flotilla who heroically defended the city of Kherson from fascist invaders in August 1941.
