Old bridges of Ukraine are some of the most unique constructions in the country, including Catherine’s Viaduct in the village of Burgunka in Kherson region. It is over 200 years old and is in excellent condition.
History of creation
The structure was built by order of Prince Grigory Potemkin in 1787. Then, Catherine II went on a trip to the Crimea. The stone composition was to help the procession cross the ford. The structure was built in the style of Roman viaducts.
The stone was laid in a special way. This is even mentioned in the manuscripts of the French engineer Guillaume Beauplan. The chateau of Prince Trubetskiy is located nearby. The arched structure will be enjoyed by tourists who appreciate the historical atmosphere and unusual creations of natural stone.
